Pre-Determined Map Locations

I have a question relating to how MapTiler chooses what locations are pre-determined on the map.

For example in looking at a map of Santa Barbara, no major landmarks appear but this label for Holistic Health Center Appears.

Curious to how we can add business into the map's default, outside of adding a marker point such as this: https://www.screencast.com/t/dlYo81sbOZOL

Any help is appreciated!

The logic behind displaying POI is based on an algorithm in the OpenMapTiles scheme. The code is available at https://github.com/openmaptiles/openmaptiles/tree/master/layers/poi. Most probably it is displayed according to some OpenStreetMap ranking.

What you can do is to do the fork of the OpenMapTiles data, create your own new layer, then generate the dataset and then upload it to MapTiler Cloud where it can be used for hosting.

An example of such a process has been demonstrated at the OpenStreetMap conference (SOTM 2018).
